Suggested Self Guided Itinerary - Explore Albany
DAY ONE
Middleton Beach to Princess Royal Harbour
Swimming, fishing and surfing are accessible straight from the park onto the beach.
Walking: From Middleton Beach Holiday Park take a stroll along the boardwalk to Point King Lighthouse.
Driving: Take Marine Drive with its numerous lookouts and view points of King George Sound.
Take the Mount Clarence turnoff and drive through the Avenue of Honour to reach the parking area near the top. (elderly and mobility impaired may drive to the top)
Mount Clarence is the highest point in Albany and the home of the Desert Corps Memorial which looks out over King George Sound, the assembly point for the WW1 convoys.
Turning left again at the lower turnoff of Mt Clarence will take you to the Forts, a restored WW1 defence establishment for the port and the memorial for the US submariners, quite an interesting walk.

Beach Scenery
Travel east along Lower King Road to visit King and Kalgan Rivers, Nanarup Beach and Two People's Bay. Nanarup Beach is a beautiful swimming and fishing beach, great for families or just relaxing.
Both Nanarup Beach and Lower King River are popular fishing spots and have free public gas barbeques.
Along the way keep your eyes open for Willowie Game Park, Marron Farm and Suncrest Orchard (in season).

DAY THREE
Boat Cruise
Choose from a wide range of water activities such as Whale Watching cruise (seasonal) or a scenic trip around the harbour.
Kalgan Queen Scenic Tours specialises in history and wildlife and operate daily except during June, July and August.
In winter and spring, witness our amazing marine wildlife from whales to seals. The Albany Visitor Centre can provide additional assistance and information about tours.

DAY FOUR
Discover Denmark
Follow the South Coast Highway for 50kms to reach Denmark, a thriving coastal town and cottage craft centre.
River cruises commence from near the bridge or for the more adventurous a boat can be hired with either oars or outboard motor. Details on other attractions such as wineries or the Alpaca Farm can be easily obtained from the Denmark Visitor Centre which is situated in the main street.
For an amazing walk amongst giants, continue on towards Walpole to the famous Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk. It is situated above and among some of the tallest karri trees in Western Australia.
On the return trip, take the alternative route via Lower Denmark Road. This gives you access to Cosy Corner, Mutton Bird Island, Torbay local crafts and a number of other beaches.

Try mountain climbing Bluff Knoll for the fit, or wander through the National Parks to experience the great wonders of the native bush.
Springtime is when you can witness some of Western Australia's unique wildflowers.
Wine lovers, the Porongurups is home to a small collection of family owned and operated boutique wineries.
Mount Barker is also known for it's award winning wineries, and is only a short drive from the Porongurups.

Frenchman Bay, with its remnants of a Norwegian whaling operation is also a popular swimming beach and has a picnic area with a small natural spring and the favourite "Bomby Rock".
On the return trip to Albany, visit some of the natural wonders on our spectacular coastline including Jimmy Newell's Harbour, the Salmon Holes, The Gap and Natural Bridge.
For the golfers, stop for a game of golf at the Grove Park Golf Links on Frenchman Bay Road.

Visit the Vancouver Arts Centre which used to be Albany's old hospital and has since been restored. From there walk via St John's Church to Stirling Terrace and visit its many fine old buildings including the Old Post Office (now UWA campus).
Back in the car and head along Serpentine Road to Mount Melville Lookout. This will give you virtually 360 degree views over the countryside surrounding Albany.
Finally, no visit to Albany is complete without a look at Dog Rock and Strawberry Hill Farm which are both on Middleton Road.
